Best of both worlds

Posted February 4th, 2010 by lmingr

This month Feb 2010 marked my 3rd year in Taiwan since I left Manila in Feb 2007. The move wasn’t easy and those who knows me, knows why such decision was necessary. But after 3 years, at times I do wonder myself if it was the best decision for me, or I’m just a crazy old fool…

Life in Manila I would say, I felt I lived a grand life. Go shopping in malls, drive my gas efficient new 2006 Honda City, have a fiancee, a job that is both stressful and challenging, a teaching job which I love so much.. but with all that, there were personal issues which was never resolved. So I left Manila hoping that things will finally settle down because I do want to settle. But what we want, we don’t always get our way… that is something we learn in life~

In Taiwan, living away from my family is not something new because I live in our employee dorm for about 3 years. But the fact that you have no one to share or talk with when you go home, or when you watch tv with, that is something I need to adjust. It wasn’t easy.

I felt from a “Princess Cinderella” life, I have turn into a pumpkin. Could you believe I have to pay a small room that is not even bigger than my room back in manila and it cost me an arm and leg?!

I never have to walk to get to places in Manila. Even just around the corner like 10mins walk, I would always drive~ lol…. Here, it’s walk walk and run for the bus!!! haha… I can’t believe I would walk at times like 30 mins to get to my destination! But you know what? Even with the pollution and rain, I love every single minute of it.

After 8yrs of ups and down and some really down down, by mutual understanding, we have to say good bye. Letting go of someone whom you consider your best friend, your fiancee and one day you hope father to your kids, it’s really hard. When you realized it’s not best for any of you, letting go at times is the best gift. A childhood friend of mine told me he can’t understand that. How can you let go of someone you love? When you care enough and want the best for them and make them happy, you will even if your heart is breaking. It’s selfless love because your not thinking of yourself. But I do pray, someday, I will find someone who will think I’m a gem hehee.. even if I don’t look like one =P

But living a pumpkin life isn’t so bad. Slowly, from a small place, I have moved to a bigger and with big window apartment! Gosh! I miss the seeing the sunshine and hearing the rain!

My parents just cant get it why I love arts and craft so much… I just do.. I might have gotten abit craft from my mom, but she only does knitting. I do cross stitch, arts, painting and no knitting! haha.. In Taiwan, I got to learn how to make teddy bear which was totally cool… from there on, a whole world open up and I also found great friend where ever I went and I felt so lucky and blessed.

So maybe being a pumpkin isn’t so bad. They are kind of cute when you carved it :p You know who your real friends are and alot of them have help me all these 3 years because of some language barrier difficulty. I felt I have mature alot in my way of thinking, and realized what I want for life.

In Manila, my mind have always been “stay at home wife? no way!” haha I think the saying that you get wiser as you get older, is true! If my future partner ask me one day, I would jump with glee this time! I love doing handmade stuff and it fit the “work at home” .. If I get lucky, maybe I can teach kids few times a week and yet take care of my own family. This would be a dream~ Now, I hope I meet this person! haha… One low down I notice here in Taiwan, guys look too much on the physical aspect of a girl. So simple old me, it’s going be a tough competition :P

It’s almost new year… a girl can make wishes and hope right? Hope God will start answering my prayers…nudge ..nudge~

My phone been begging me for a cover for so long and I have been searching for a pouch that shout “ming”…. But so far, I haven’t found it yet… and thought why not start the new year 2010 with a pouch to pass the time =p

While waiting for the count down, I was busy sewing my design and concept.. It isn’t how I envision the celebration but this year, I will spend it with someone!!! Hmm maybe about time I get a puppy~ =D hahaha

So here is my phone…

Don’t you just love the gingerbread man? His my favorite and he reminds me of the gingerbread man in Shrek… Such a funny guy~

I can charge my phone even with this soft case on… And since it’s soft, I can easily remove it… the little fellow (gingerbread man) get’s stuck in the gap at time hehehe … too much sugar? =D

My first try in embroidery some design, so it’s not my best work….

Laptop Sleeve

Posted January 2nd, 2010 by lmingr

This was something I finished after Christmas. I want to have a sleeve for my laptop so that I can just put it inside any bag without scratching it. My Samsonite Laptop bag not only I love the design, but it’s also practical. But one low down is that it’s abit heavy even without my computer.

This computer I have have been with me for almost 3 years and the battery is really weak. So this would mean that I would need to bring around the charger all the time, thus, the weight. So I finally decide to make some simple changes such as basic small pouch that I would be carry when I bring my computer around. I always travel light…

Here is my work….

What does this look like? I combines 2 red suede at the side..

First time designing it, good thing it fit exactly :P

Because during sewing, the fabric wasn’t all that straight.. And knowing me, I want all the dimension to be exact, so with that, the allowance were cut off :P   During cutting,I mistaken some measurement and over cut some fabrics lol… But it’s always a learning experience.

This is design by me..

I never thought of designing small stuff but I really enjoy it..

Hope you guys like it too? =)

Now… a bear to complete this hehehe :)

My new Plant

Posted November 16th, 2009 by lmingr

Last Nov 6, my good friend Kevin and I got our own office plant… We were kind of envious that our friend got one, so decided we will get one too…

Mine is pretty cool actually.. The box looks like a medical kit but inside, there are 2 types of seeds.. I can’t really read it so my friend help me choose… Later I found out it’s Happiness and relationship plant… hmmm does it mean if it grows up great,  I’ll finally get a love life?! hahhaha…. Well, a girl can wish cant she? :P

In the first week, here is what my green leaf plant looks like….

My 2nd try at needle felting

Posted October 19th, 2009 by lmingr

Last week, a friend and I got a flower pot because of the nice sketching drawing… and decide to see if we can plant it up.. Since I know it would take some time before I can see some movement, I thought of decorating my pot… So thought, why dont I try needle felting for a change. Last time i try, it was a flop so… here is my work… I would say not bad on the tree but the bird…. hmmmm it looks totally not cute like the book I bought! =p The book was in Chinese by the way, so got no idea what it says~ hehehe…

dsc000011

oh.. I forgot, I sew a lady bug too =P hehehe….

not bad… I think I’m going to make others…

So good to be back =)

Posted October 18th, 2009 by lmingr

For the past few months work have been so hectic that I wasn’t able to blog, email, or make anything interesting but I’m glad we hit the sales target for this year so it might be smooth sailing until December where I need to worry about new clients….

I’m slowly one step at a time moving on with my life and for the first time in few years, I somehow felt happy yet sad for what I have lost… But I’m still glad I still got the best of friend in the whole world who I know would be there for me when I needed him…. His such a great person and we have made a hard decisions which would be best for us both… No hard feelings because there is a saying ” it’s better to have love than not to love at all”…

First thing aside from getting work abit settle, it’s myself. I never realized how much I have gained all through these years. At times I may look just like my weight, at times I dont.. so it’s time to move my ass (literally) and working out isn’t much fun without someone there beside you to encourage you, but I got my ipod touch to keep me going… My legs hurts from all those workout yesterday and cant believe I get out of breath so fast! Is it old age or I’m really out of shape? hmmm Yes, I know im really out of shape, but this feeling so faint after doing treadmill for like 20mins, is it really age?

I’m also working on a anime bunnie for my friend birthday and dont know if my friend will like it…. I think it looks just ok… I’m not done with the hat yet but after working hard on the head and all, I think it’s coming around…. Jenny is really such a blessing.. she answers my doubt on my choice of fabric.. Since it’s a gift, I just need to play it safe… fingers cross and hope to get it done by Wed…  and soon, one by one, I just might finish my on hold “unfinished projects” and you can never guess like how many are they! Too many to name hehehe… well, those projects sure keep me occupied…

dsc00001

I’m still undecided if I would add a blush or not…. will see when I cross that bridge…. well, off to cook dinner =D
